Upon arrival to NZ and opening my mail I find a letter for the British High commission in Wellington saying that my UK citizenship has been accepted and for it to be formalised I have to attend a citizenship ceremony in Wellington or else my application is deemed void. So it’s time for a road trip.
Drove down to Wellington and realised what a beautiful country NZ is had dinner with my mate Rowan and went to the citizenship ceremony I swore allegiance under the British flag and photo of Queenie that I would be a good geezer as a POM. I didn’t even get a cup of tea and a scone when i was done. Kind of ironic that the first song I hear on the stereo as I got back in the car was London calling. Errr.
Drove across the Rimataka ranges (see previous note on beautiful country) towards Naiper to spend a night in a Rest home. Hi Nana and the local pub for a feed and catch up on old times, hear about the WAAF during the war in London.
Being a long weekend for the Queenie to blow out some candles mates (Gareth X 2, Rowan +1 and Mike + mut) had organised to head down to the chalet in Ohakune for Friday through Monday. Long in the short of it was basically was a pie eating 3 days split up by chasing thieves around ratahei for Mikes bike which got pinched and sitting in Rowans spa, tough times.
I left to head back to Auckland on the Sunday, it was snowing throughout Ohakune and till the other side of Nation al Park. I imagine it will be a while before i am back on that road again.
Home to the compulsory final dinner at HK in Birkenhead for the Dry Fry Beans (Tim this is better than the one in Melboune) and all you can eat mix up. Cheers everyone for coming and hope to see you amongst the travels.
It was somewhat sad to leave NZ and parentals and mates, see you later not good bye.
